By the time babies take their first steps, they will already have $1,400 waiting for them. That is because of the $1,000 federal seed deposit from the Trump Accounts and the $250 contributed by Michael and Susan Dell. Now billionaire Elon Musk is the latest to shower children with stock as he plans to donate one SpaceX share to every kid in America next year.
You Get a SpaceX Share!
Have you checked on the children? Well, the kids will be all right.
About 73 million under-18 individuals live in the United States today, and they are about to receive a single share of Elon Musk's $2 trillion rocket and artificial intelligence (AI) business.
In an Oct. 19 post on X, Musk announced that he will donate some of his SpaceX shares to children. “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” he wrote on his social media platform. “This will be the first of many.”
Musk's announcement comes shortly after AI juggernaut Anthropic confirmed that it plans to offer 5% of its shares to a new public benefit fund. While it has yet to debut on Wall Street, the company says up to 20% of its shares will be "committed to the public good."
Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX CEO pushed back and urged Anthropic to offer "the shares directly to the public" instead, something he teased he would do.
President Donald Trump, meanwhile, called Musk “our legendary friend” and applauded him “for his incredible generosity."
"This is exactly what was envisioned when we created TRUMP ACCOUNTS — Bringing together the GREAT PRIVATE SECTOR, Elon and so many more, to invest in our children, by far our greatest and most important asset, and give every American Child a piece of the American Dream," President Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Details, Please
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings show that Musk owns about 6.4 billion shares. At a share price of about $147, the giveaway would cost the world’s richest person almost $11 billion.
Other key details remain unclear, including whether all kids will be eligible for the stock donation and what happens if the stock accelerates before next year.
One major hurdle, however, will be out of the way: how the stock donation will be shared. The Treasury Department allowed companies or charities to donate stock to the Trump Accounts, which have 70 million kids signed up.
Why It Matters
The numbers are clear. In this economy and in the future, Americans will either need to own assets or risk getting left behind. As the last few decades have proven, stocks are one way to get ahead.
As a result, children born today or tomorrow will benefit greatly from the administration’s efforts. Even if the Trump Accounts go untouched until the beneficiaries are eligible to withdraw, the $1,400 compounded at 5% per year for 20 years will grow to nearly $4,000.
That is, assuming SpaceX stock does not balloon as investors believe.
One SpaceX share could go to the moon and reach for the stars, much like other ventures Elon Musk has launched. And young Americans will have skin in the game before their first day of kindergarten.
